Executive profile
With more than twenty-five years of experience spanning climate policy, climate finance, clean energy, and carbon markets, Boonrod is widely recognized as a leading expert in climate finance instruments, decarbonization strategy, and climate market development in Thailand and across the region.
As founding partner of Creagy, he plays a central role in shaping the firm’s strategic direction and advancing practical climate action by helping governments, businesses, and financial institutions build the foundations of a net-zero economy. Boonrod brings a unique combination of policy insight, financial acumen, and implementation experience. His work covers the design and assessment of climate policies, development of enabling regulatory environments, and structuring of climate and clean energy finance mechanisms that accelerate decarbonization while supporting economic transition.
Policy and market leadership
He has been deeply involved in Thailand’s climate policy and regulatory development, including contributions to the drafting of the Climate Change Act, the development of climate-related fiscal and financial instruments, and the formulation of national investment roadmaps for clean energy and climate adaptation. His experience also includes advisory work on Thailand Taxonomy Phase II, proposals for access to the Green Climate Fund (GCF), carbon market mechanisms, carbon credit standard enhancement, and approaches related to Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. Boonrod has also worked extensively with leading international and multilateral organizations, advising or supporting projects associated with institutions such as the World Bank, GIZ, GGGI, USAID, UNEP, the Copenhagen Climate Centre, and UNDP. These engagements reflect his ability to operate effectively across public policy, international cooperation, and private-sector implementation.
Advisory and academic roles
In addition to leading Creagy, Boonrod serves in several roles that reinforce his influence in the climate field. He is an instructor at the Chulalongkorn School of Integrated Innovation (ScII), where he teaches “Climate Change: From Science to Actions,” and he also contributes to regional and national climate initiatives through leadership and advisory roles, including as an Evaluation Ambassador at Energy Evaluation Asia-Pacific (EEAP) and as a council board member of the Thailand Carbon Neutral Network (TCNN) during 2022-2025. He is particularly recognized for advising corporations on their transition toward net zero. His approach is grounded in a sophisticated understanding of how climate transition affects demand, capital allocation, cost structures, competitiveness, and employment across high-emitting sectors, enabling organizations to respond strategically to both risk and opportunity.
Career background
Boonrod’s work in climate change began during the Kyoto Protocol era in the 2000s, when he was involved in biogas-to-energy projects under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM). He later strengthened his international and financial expertise through roles such as Carbon Commercial Analyst at Eneco and Sustainable Risk Advisor at ABN AMRO Bank in the Netherlands, where he helped integrate climate risk considerations into customer and financing frameworks. After returning to Bangkok, he took on a business development role at Engie Asia, where he identified and structured carbon credit and clean energy projects across several Asian countries. He later led the USAID Clean Power Asia program, a multi-million-dollar regional initiative supporting renewable energy development in the Mekong region, and through his leadership at the USAID Private Financing Advisory Network-Asia (PFAN), he further established his reputation as a specialist in mobilizing investment for clean energy projects in Southeast Asia.
